MATHS / SCIENCE CHALLENGE

10 FEB 2017

The 2016–2017 Maths/Science competition drew to a close with a dramatic final after another successful session. Once again the competition was tightly contested with very fine margins at times between defeat and victory. 1B1 and 1H1 made it to the final which proved to be an exciting encounter contested live in front of the whole S1 assembly. Going into the final 1H1 were probably the slight favourites having achieved a very impressive 100% winning record in the group stages. However, the final is all about keeping calm under pressure and it was 1B1 who prevailed to secure the trophy. Nobody who witnessed their victory could fail to be impressed by the rapid mental arithmetic, scientific understanding and composure that they demonstrated in taking the trophy.

The final is just the pinnacle of the hard work all S1 tutor classes have put in over the last few months; competing against each other weekly in both science and mathematics problem solving tasks. All pupils have competed with a smile on their faces and good sportsmanship has been evident throughout. It has been a very inclusive competition and a genuine team effort with most members of each tutor group being involved at some stage of the competition in at least one of the Maths or Science challenges. Many congratulations to all who participated and to S1 tutors for helping to co-ordinate the event.
