Derry Langan an S3 pupil at Dumfries Academy recently gave a presentation to her Drama class about how she copes with her disability: cerebral visual impairment. In Derry’s words “My eyes work fine but my brain sometimes jumbles up the picture. I have to look at something more than once, as I forget it easily.”
Derry’s Drama Teacher, Mrs Miller, praised Derry’s openness about her condition. Her fellow classmates were also impressed with the way she opened their eyes to how she copes with learning in school, and how well she does.
As well as opening up about her condition, Derry’s passion for Drama, and her gratitude towards Mrs Miller for all her support, led her to donate some of her well-earned pocket money to the department to support future shows and opportunities for other young people to perform.
Derry’s act of kindness has shown her to be an extremely caring and thoughtful young person and we are very proud that she is a member of our school community.
