Bye Bye Birdie

03 NOV 2017

Bye Bye Birdie is one of the most well-loved musicals of all time. It is set in 1960 and tells the tale of a rock and roll, Elvis-like singer, Conrad Birdie, who has just been inducted into the US Army. His devastated teenage fans sadly swoon for their celebrity crush as they bid farewell to him, but not before his record agent, Albert Peterson and his secretary Rose Alvarez scheme one final publicity stunt to sell millions of records. The plan is simple: Conrad Birdie gives one lucky teenage girl, plucked randomly from all of his fans, “One Last Kiss” on the national televised Ed Sullivan Show while singing a song of the same name, which will no doubt be a sell-out. However when the adoring all-American girl, Kim MacAfee, has just gone steady with her first true love, Hugo Peabody, jealousy and conflict arises and choices have to be made. What will a small town like Sweet Apple Ohio do when a slick city heartthrob like Conrad Birdie rolls into town? If you have liked Hairspray and Grease, then this 1960’s fun-loving musical will make you “Put on a Happy Face” too. Come join us at Dumfries Academy on 15th, 16th and 17th November. Doors open at 6:30pm; show starts at 7:00pm. Tickets are £6 Adults/£4 Concessions. They can be purchased at the School main office on 01387 274350 or from the Midsteeple. Tickets are also available on the door.
