DA VINCI CHALLENGE 2017

29 SEP 2017

On 27th September 2017 Miss Templeton and a group of enthusiastic and excited students attended the da Vinci Mini-Decathlon at the Easterbrook Hall. The team comprised of fifth year students: Rowan Wilson, Islay McIsaac, Hannah Stewart, Georgia McCuaig, Douglas Smith, Keir Skilling, Grieg Weir and Will McDowall. There were several teams from across Dumfries and Galloway and teams from Knox Grammar in Australia also participated.
The day comprised of university level challenges, ranging from Code Breaking to Creative Producers. The Easterbrook Hall staff made us soup and sandwiches for lunch and a finger buffet for dinner. After dinner, the teams were able to socialise and take part in a traditional Scottish Ceilidh to show the Australian guests how to do some of the most popular Scottish Ceilidh dances. They all thoroughly enjoyed themselves!
The awards were announced around 6:30pm. Dumfries Academy won the prize for the Ideation challenge where they had to generate an innovative and creative solution to solve a major problem within society – not easy! Several of the other schools, including Knox Grammar years 9 and 10 also won prizes. Dumfries Academy were also very excited to find out they had won the competition overall and received a beautiful glass trophy for their hard work!
