LOCH EIL RESIDENTIAL TRIP 2017

02 JUN 2017

Over 30 S3 pupils from Dumfries Academy took to the Highlands of Scotland with The Outward Bound Trust recently. They were accompanied by Miss Barton, Mr Aitken and Mr Nicholson. Set in extensive grounds on the shores of Loch Eil, the pupils stayed in a former shooting lodge once owned by the Chief of the Clan Cameron. Close to Fort William and some of Europe's most beautiful and remote true wilderness, it’s ideal for adventure.
Pupils were straight in at the deep end with the first activity on the Loch with the 'Jog and Dip'. This tested the limits of staff and pupils but everyone rose to the challenge. Our pupils were moved into their own 'clans' where teamwork, ambition, responsibility and independence were key aspects of focus.
The pupils excelled themselves and found new levels of self-belief and inner confidence. They were also rewarded with the John Muir Award which was presented to them at the recent S3 Celebration of Achievement ceremony. The pupils are taking their new found ability and ambition to increase their understanding of skills required in the workplace and the wider world, including protecting our wonderful landscape.
