DUMFRIES ACADEMY FOOTBALL TRIP

19 MAY 2017

On Saturday, 13 May 2017 48 pupils from Dumfries Academy, St Joseph’s College and Annan Academy travelled to the Etihad Stadium to watch Manchester City vs Leicester City in a premiership league football match organised by Dumfries Academy PE department. Before the match pupils had the opportunity to participate in a variety of fun activities including bubble football, photos with the club trophies and bungee football at the Manchester City Academy indoor 3G pitch. Pupils then took their seats ahead of the big game where Manchester City strengthened their position on a top-four finish in the league with a nail biting 2-1 victory over champions Leicester. Manchester City took the lead by David Silva's 29th-minute strike on goal. In the 36th minute Gabriel Jesus also scored from the spot after Yohan Benalouane's fouled Leroy Sane. Shinji Okazaki's scored for Leicester City before half-time and Leicester thought they had snatched a point when Riyad Mahrez converted a 76th-minute penalty. Referee Robert Madley, however, spotted Mahrez had struck the ball twice and disallowed the goal as City clung onto a victory that moved them up to third in the Premier League. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the experience and were a credit to their schools.
